Progressive rock began in the late 1960s, but it didn’t hit its stride commercially or creatively until the next decade (with artists such as King Crimson, Camel, Yes, Rush, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Van der Graaf Generator and Pink Floyd leading the charge).
Decades later and, regardless of how many amazing artists and albums have emerged over the last 45 years, most genre fans — including us — agree that the 1970s remains the pinnacle era of progressive rock.
