There are so many iconic interactions in League of Legends. From rival characters throwing verbal barbs at one another, to Sona's old 'adagio summoner!' that broke the fourth wall, Riot's MOBA happily leans into the fanbase's many memes. But following patch 25.11, one such quirk appears to be bugged, much to the distress of players everywhere – myself included. If you can successfully lead Shelly the Rift Herald to the Nexus, she'll bust out some slick disco moves to celebrate what's likely been a pretty dominant win. However, her dance has vanished, and I've never been so sad.
The bug was first reported on Friday May 30, a couple of days after League of Legends patch 25.11 dropped. I jumped into the MOBA to see for myself and, after a thoroughly one-sided practice tool match, I safely ushered Shelly to Nexus, hoping that she'd begin to cut shapes as usual. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case: the red crystal shattered with Shelly simply looking on, lifeless; almost sad, even.
"Herald doesn't dance anymore," laments one player on Reddit, prompting a response from 'GalaxySmash' confirming that a fix is currently in the works. "Working on it!" they respond, with two little handshake emojis in response to a much-deserved "thanks king." So don't worry, Shelly will be back and busting out some moves soon – perhaps as part of patch 25.12 on Wednesday June 11, although I think it's important enough to merit a hotfix.
This is, of course, an incredibly minor thing, but silly little interactions like this are why I love League of Legends. As someone who's felt herself growing apart from the game recently because it doesn't quite hit like it used to, I'm glad Riot's still prioritizing the 'fun.'
Having jumped into the practice tool for the first time since the season switchover, I can tell you already that I've got the urge to play League this evening.
