Mojang has revealed the name of its next game drop, as Minecraft Chase the Skies is set to focus on taking you up, up and away. Revealed during the MC Championship TwitchRivals stream, the drop is all about skyward exploration, with even more extra features thrown in to further enhance your time in the sandbox game.

The title feature of Minecraft's Chase the Skies game drop is the brand new happy ghast flying mount. To unlock the creature, you'll first need to head to the Nether and locate the dried ghast block. These dehydrated blocks are usually found near fossil structures, but you can also sometimes trade with piglins in the survival game to get them, too. Alternatively, you can gather ghast tears and soul sand to craft one yourself.

Once you've got out of the Nether, you'll need to put your dried ghast in water and wait for it to become a ghastling. Sorry, I know you thought you'd have the happy ghast straight away, but there's a little more to do yet. From here, you need to feed your ghastling loads of snowballs before it'll fully transform into the airborne mount of your dreams.

Next up is one of Minecraft's greatest quality-of-life improvements: the player locator bar. This shows up in the same place as your XP bar on the screen, and marks all of your friends in the world with colored dots. You'll even have a helpful arrow pointing up or down, if your pals managed to get lost on top of a cliff or deep inside a cave.

In Chase the Skies, there's also going to be a new music disc that you can loot from ghasts. On top of this, there'll be five new ambient tracks across various Overworld biomes written by Amos Roddy.

That's not all, though, as Mojang is also introducing Minecraft's biggest official visual refresh yet, called Vibrant Visuals. The update will massively improve the overall lighting, shadows, and immersive details of Minecraft, turning it into an entirely new experience. If you'd rather leave it off, though, you'll be glad to know you can play on Realms with friends if they have it or not. You should also know that it'll also only be available on compatible Minecraft: Bedrock Edition devices at first, but it will come Java at some point in the future.

Mojang also notes that you'll want to bring along some craftable saddles and leads, which have recently been overhauled in the game's snapshots. There's no launch date for Chase the Skies just yet, however.
