Somehow, Terraria 1.4.5 keeps getting bigger. The long-awaited 'final update' for one of the best-selling games of all time is creeping gradually towards us. But developer Re-Logic hasn't left us hanging. The end of the month means the Terraria State of the Game for May 2025, and with it come fresh 1.4.5 spoilers. This time, we've got two new weapons that should make the early game feel a lot more dynamic, and also prove particularly welcome for those who enjoy modes such as Skyblock.
In the new State of the Game blog, head of business strategy Ted 'Loki' Murphy reflects on the month of May, which brought us the fourteenth birthday of the iconic indie game. With it came the new retro build, allowing you to hop into Terraria 1.3 and experience the game as it was when the climactic boss encounter against the Moon Lord was first introduced. Now, though, the focus is once again on the future.
To rip the band-aid off up front, Murphy confirms that there's no Terraria 1.4.5 release date announcement for now. "We know that everyone is desperately wanting a release window," he writes. "We discuss this topic on a very regular basis – ultimately, we don't want to ever cut corners, and we want to be very sure of any date or timing we give whenever it is ready for prime time…so just hang in there with us a bit longer. We know this update has taken a long time, and we thank you for the patience you show each month."
Onto the good news, then. Murphy notes that Terraria's early game "can feel a bit limiting in regards to gear choices," and presents a solution so simple I can't quite believe it didn't exist already. "What if you could craft a nice early weapon out of the most common enemy that roams the plains and forests of Terraria, the humble slime?" That's right; in Terraria 1.4.5 there are two new weapons that can be crafted using the gel dropped by slain slimes.
The Slime Spear and Slime Whip give you some more interesting attack animations than the early wooden and ore options, and they also apply the slime debuff to any enemies hit. Presumably, the latter of them will also be yet another gift for summoner builds. You won't even have to overcome the more dangerous King Slime to get your hands on them, and it should prove a real boon for maps with very limited resources, such as Terraria Skyblock.
As an extra bonus, the update also amplifies said status effect so that it makes affected creatures more susceptible to fire. This can also be applied with an attack that lands after you've already ignited them. Combine those new slime weapons with fire arrows or the early Wand of Sparking, for example, and you could have yourself a very potent way to carve through the health pools of some of the more challenging early Terraria bosses.
That's all for the PC version, although the team does also showcase a new control scheme for those playing on mobile that should prove very welcome, offering far more customization over the way multi-touch works. This will make it much easier to perform multiple actions simultaneously, which is a great help to anyone that plays Terraria on the go.
