Silent Hill f ending explained

Does Silent Hill f have different endings? Historically, Silent Hill games have almost always had multiple endings. Despite the series' traumatic messages, there are even some fun ones.

In the psychological horror game, our protagonist Hinako has been up against it from a young age, as we touch on in our spoiler-free Silent Hill f review. With a troubling family life, traitorous friends, gender discrimination, and the responsibilities that come with being a woman in 1960s Japan, there's a lot to unpack here. Add substance abuse to the mix, and we're in for some hard-to-watch Silent Hill f endings.

A box of red and white pills lays spilled across the floor during the normal Silent Hill f ending.

The main ending is the only ending available for your first playthrough. The four other endings can only be obtained in New Game Plus.

Coming Home to Roost

In the main ending, Hinako returns to her parents' home and is rejected, presumably after having been married off to Fox Mask. At this point, the final battle with herself takes place, and Hinako must defeat her monstrous form in a classic Japanese wedding kimono. As she screams, "You took everything from me," we can assume that the Hinako we have been playing as is a past version of the young girl, before marriage, but around the time her sister was married. Marriage took her sister from her, as it has now taken her parents, and she wishes to turn back time.

After seemingly defeating bridal Hinako, young Hinako stumbles out of the Dark Shrine into sirens and flashing lights, only to be faced with herself yet again before the game ends. While it's open to interpretation, this could again be a reference to the fact that she was married in this instance and can't go back, so she will never truly defeat that side of her. As Hinako yells "Get out of our way" at her future self, we can interpret that she is perhaps referring to herself and her sister, and maybe even womankind altogether.

A post-credits scene then plays out in which a police officer explains that a murder suspect is on the loose after committing another crime. A young woman in her 20s, wearing a wedding dress, we can assume this is Hinako on her wedding day, having suffered a drug-induced mental break. There are two male suspects here, perhaps her husband and father, and Hinako is also suspected of having committed a previous "wedding massacre."

Now you know what the first Silent Hill f ending means and have a better idea of the trauma Hinako has been facing, it's time to move on to New Game Plus to experience the story game's other endings.
