It's been said before, but there just aren't enough dinosaurs in videogames these days. The opportunities to hang out with extinct prehistoric beasts are few and far between, relegated to the occasional highlight of games like Jurassic World Evolution 2, Ark Survival Evolved, Dino Trauma, or The Isle. Fortunately, there's now Ferocious, a new FPS and survival game hybrid in this should-be-flourishing subgenre, and it's currently holding a public playtest on Steam, so you can try it for yourself right now.
Ferocious is a shooting-heavy survival game that sees players trekking through a kind of lost world, its jungles hiding old ruined structures and, naturally, lots and lots of dinosaurs. It's heavy on danger, with the protagonist needing to not only survive attacks by a variety of creatures and murderous mercenaries but also figure out how to survive the island itself. This involves scrounging for the resources required to craft new gear and to equip yourself with the weapons needed to shoot down human and dinosaur enemies.
The Steam page promises more than just straightforward fighting and environmental puzzle-solving, too. Most intriguing is the ability to redirect dinosaurs so they can help, Far Cry-style, fight the player's foes.
Ferocious doesn't have a launch date yet, but you can wishlist the game or give it a try through its current playtest on Steam right here.
Otherwise, there's more like it to discover in our lists of the best dinosaur games and best FPS games already out on PC now.
