This new $59 Logitech wireless gaming headset just blew my mind

Logitech has just held a lavish grand unveiling of nearly a dozen new gaming products at its Logitech G Play event. However, among the high-end sim racing gear and experimental new gaming mice, perhaps my favorite new product is a budget wireless gaming headset called the Logitech G321.

This modest Logitech noise maker doesn't make any grand claims for stunning sound quality or any revolutionary new tech. What it does deliver is an incredibly comfortable, secure-fitting, lightweight design, and dual wireless connections for an incredibly low price. It's far too early to say if it will definitely become the new budget choice on our best gaming headset guide, but based on my testing on the G Play show floor, it stands a very good chance.

Running through its core specs, the G321 is a wireless-only headset, with both Logitech's Lightspeed 2.4GHz wireless tech and the ability to connect to Bluetooth devices too - though not at the same time. It also features a flip-down microphone and on-headset controls for volume, power, and input switching.

So far, so standard - it's very similar in core specs to the G435 Lightspeed, for instance, but with two extra hours of battery life. However, what really won me over with this headset is its low weight and comfort. It weighs just 210g, which is a massive 100g less than many typical wireless gaming headsets. This immediately helps with reducing discomfort from weight coming through the headband, plus it means the headset stays really secure as you tilt your head around.

It also helps that the earcup padding is deep and soft, with plenty of room within the earcups for your ears. The headband padding isn't super thick - it uses a band similar in design to that of the Apple AirPods Pro, but with padding instead of mesh. Again, though, the lightness of the headset makes the difference.

The natural sound isolation of the headset is also really impressive. Despite being in a very busy space, and this headset having no active noise cancellation (ANC) tech, this headset reduced the din enough to allow for a decent level of sound quality analysis. In contrast, the new $170 Astro A20 X didn't really reduce surrounding noise enough to assess it well on the show floor.

Bass heads will be pleased too, as this headset really thumps. However, this is actually where this headset really shows its budget price. Its sound is big, beefy, and fun, but it very much lacks subtle detail, noticeably getting muddy even in the noisy listening environment of the G Play show floor. Still, for $59, it's a fun enough sound to get playing comfortably when you're on a tight budget.

For those of you thinking that the G435 is already widely available for $50 and is even lighter, you're not wrong. However, that headset launched at $80, whereas this one is hitting the market at just $59.

Logitech G Play is the company's annual big showcase of the company's latest gaming gear, with this year's event taking place in Madrid and seeing the launch of 11 new products. These include its new McLaren F1 racing gear and its new Logitech G Pro X2 Superstrike gaming mouse, which doesn't have normal microswitches but instead uses analog switches with adjustable haptic feedback.

Does a headset like this sound tempting to you, or are you more interested in the McLaren version of the Astro A50 X? Let us know your thoughts over on our community Discord channel.
